Beenie Man Censored for Anti-Gay Lyrics

At a scheduled performance in Barcelona, Spain, Beenie Man was forced to sign the Reggae Compassionate Act before he was allowed to perform on a show. The contract prevented him from using anti-gay lyrics in his performance and confirmed that he agreed to have tolerance for homosexuals as well as be subjected to lyrical scrutiny while he performed. Breaching the contract would have meant being denounced by Europe and his compliance was strongly urged by the organizers of the show and the gay groups within the country. However, although he accepted this censorship, there were still individuals who felt the agreement was not enough and they threatened to boycott the concert.
Even though there were no reported incidences, it is clear that Europe has decided to use reggae artists as ambassadors against anti- gay lyrics within the reggae music industry.
